What is Crowdcast? Why use it?
Even with all of the better-known platforms out there, I've chosen to host live video chats with my readers on Crowdcast. Wondering why?
Isn't it easier just to do Facebook Live videos?
Well, yes and no. Sure, Facebook Live is easy to do. But Facebook is a crowded scene. Hosting intimate discussions on Facebook is like hosting a Bible Study in a main thoroughfare of the mall. It might seem convenient because "everyone is already there". But that's half the problem.
Crowdcast isn't a place with a million distractions. It's a dedicated live-video hosting site. And because that's what it's all about, it does it's job very, very well.
Once you've got a Crowdcast account, all you have to do to join is click the green "Save my seat" button on any event that interests you. You'll be notified by email when the event is live and when the replay is ready!
Or, if you prefer, use the blue button above and follow me on Crowdcast to be notified whenever I go live, even if you aren't registered for the individual event.
In Crowdcast, the conversation starts long before the live video does. You can post your questions in the Ask a Question window as soon as you register for the event and we can talk about them when the event is live, whether you're able to make it or not.
Viewers can upvote questions that interest them, participate in the poll, and drop a note in the chat box before or during the live show.
Comments in the live video appear almost immediately; there's no lag like with a Facebook Live video. It's like going back to the heyday of Periscope, only better!
Better replay experience.
Most of my readers are busy moms. While they love to join in on live video as much as possible, the fact is that watching the replay is a realistic plan B. But Crowdcast replays are a cut above the rest.
You can watch the replay at high speed (up to 3x) to "skim" for content that interests you. You can look at the list of questions answered and click "View Answer" to hop right to the place in the video where that question was discussed.
The replay is automatically available within a few moments of the end of the live video and right in the same location. So if you come across that reminder email after the live event has ended, no problem. Just follow that link and head strait for the replay!
Crowdcast is a paid platform.
It's free for you, but it's not free for me. Why am I telling you that? I'm mentioning it, because it makes all the difference in your experience on Crowdcast as opposed to another platform.
Crowdcast is supported by member subscription fees, not by ads. It doesn't need "algorithms" to keep you on the platform. It doesn't decide what you see and what you don't see. You decide that.
And because it's not free, you don't have to worry that it's going to become "the next social media" where everybody and his brother will show up and you'll be receiving constant notifications. Only content creators who are serious enough about their message to put their money where their mouth is (literally!) will be there.
I'm not abandoning Facebook and YouTube.
I'm committed to giving my audience a stellar live-video experience in Crowdcast. But one of my favorite features of Crowdcast is that I can livestream directly to Facebook and YouTube as I broadcast.
The real conversation still happens inside Crowdcast where all the premium engagement features are located. But followers on Facebook and YouTube can watch right from those platforms as well.
If you've looked forward to stumbling across live videos just because you're on Facebook at the right time, nothing there will change. But we do hope when you see our broadcasts, you'll consider hopping into the Crowdcast event for more personal interaction!
If you're still reading, then you deserve a reward, so I'll let you in on a little secret! LIVE without Training Wheels will also be shared in podcast form beginning in 2019!
LIVE without Training Wheels will be a podcast with a regular live studio audience! Show up, ask your questions, chat with us as we broadcast, and find yourself included in the next LIVE without Training Wheels podcast episode!
